The Europa carbon footprint

Since our formation in 1994, Europa has maintained a firm strategy of creating a workforce of qualified, professional people, regardless of their location. Back then this was a relatively novel policy, whereas it is now a corporate mandate for many organisations, and a stated goal for others striving to change their culture and carbon footprint.

We did not embrace this strategy for ecological reasons; we did it because our goal was to recruit people with the highest levels of experience in technology, business and sales skills, and make those people available to our clients.

Hence we inadvertently created an organisation that was well ahead of its time and which today leads the way in terms of energy efficiency.

Over 50% of our employees never even leave their home in order to travel to work. They 'commute' and communicate via the internet - on broadband connections and within a telephone and video conferencing environment in order to collaborate with, manage and train their colleagues, rather than travel to routine meetings.

This demands that we leverage elements of technology and levels of management techniques not always present in a centralised office environment, but it pays in terms of staff retention; customer satisfaction and of course in our low carbon existence.

Another important factor is that our business processes are almost entirely electronic. Hence our consumption of paper for printed output is virtually zero.
